Approximately 800,000 people are seen by medical professionals annually due to skateboarding injuries. Less than 40% of individuals that do this sport wear the proper safety equipment for it. Why is this? Why don’t we wear the things that are invented to help protect us against the perils of skating? I don’t see any reason for you people to not be safe. Here is a list of reasons you should wear protective gear:
Pads keep you from getting hurt.
Pads smell great after using them.
They are totally comfortable to wear.
They fit nicely in a large 36″ x 21″ duffel bag, very portable.
Pads are really, really cool looking.
Did I mention they smell great after using them? Because they do!
They come in a large assortment of colors and animal print patterns.
They are very affordable.
Chicks dig’em
High-fives with wrist guards on are just the bees knees.
See, shes got it. Knee, elbow, padded gloves, and chest protector. She is looking good, and SAFE!
We just got a restock of Deluxe products and a shipment of KeyStone decks came in. We still have a few of the Dracula Artifact shirts in, so come get’em.
Also go check out skatedowntown.com to see a video of Artifact friends Dave Lewis, Zack Gagnon, Dave Sullivan, and Alek Zalewski skating Groton. Weird, I don’t remember getting a call to go skate. Dicks! Check it out anyway, looked like a good time. Keep checking out the site for the most intense interview of my life from Brick Wheel’s Matt Urbano. That guy is tough!
April is going to be a very busy month. Here’s a run down of events you better get your board to. On April 4th Haven Skate Park will be holding Rick Thorne’s Grindz and Rhymez Tour, check the Haven site for more info on that one. April 17th Haven will be holding the qualifiers for the Warped Tour. And finally, last but not least Artifact will be doing the Time Trials contest at Wethersfield Skate Park on April 24th. Sign up at 11am and contest begins at 12. There will be a BBQ going on from 1pm to 2pm only. Keep your eyes peeled for the KeyStone demo date, I’m pretty sure it will also be happening in April. So there you go, we took the liberty of planning out your whole month. Do not disappoint us by not showing up!
This weeks Wisdom Wednesday is all about Connecticut. Did you know that the Connecticut state animal is the Sperm whale. Also, Connecticut is home to The Nut Museum, started by Elizabeth Tashjian in 1973. She has the largest nuts in the world, one weighing in at around 35 pds. Connecticut is also home to the oldest public library in America, it opened in 1771. You could borrow a book on the 3rd Monday of every 3rd month. I bet you’re proud to be a Nutmegger now, huh!
Stop by this weekend and pick up a new Artifact T-shirt. They will be in the shop on Saturday, they are hand screened and there is only a limited number of them, once they’re gone they’re gone so be sure to get yours now!!!
Rick Thorne will be making a stop at Haven skate Park on April 4th with His Grindz and Rhymez Jam. It will be a Jam style contest for both bikes and boards! There will be live music, a demo from the Famous Stars and Straps bmx/skate team, and the contest. So come on down and bring your “A” game!
This weeks wisdom happens to do with skateboarding this week. I see allot of people getting very confused when it comes to nollie 180s. I’m going to try to clear things up for you. And don’t worry, many people have a hard time with this concept. Ok, so if you are regular footed, or left foot forward, and you want to do a nollie backside 180 then you are going to turn the same way you would as if you were doing a regular backside 180. Nothing changes. Same with frontside, you go the same way you would normally turn. I don’t know where the whole myth of things changing around when you go nollie but it is just not true. I hope this helped. No go forth and enjoy this beautiful weather.
P.S. I included a very detailed drawing to help with this explanation in case you still dont get it. It is very clear and should help out.
